I'm still using my Gateway 2000 dinosaur. It came with the following in 1989:
20 mhz
Intel 386DX;
4 meg ram;
1 - 110 meg. Microscience hard drive;
1 - 3 1/2" and 1- 5 1/4" Teac floppy drives;
101 key Fujitsu keyboard (FKB4700):
Logitech 3 button mouse;
ATI wonder video card;
14" NEC multisync 3D monitor-28dpi.
My first
upgrades:
A
second 110 meg Microscience hard drive;
Intel math co-processor;
Another 4 meg. ram;
2X Media Vision cd-rom drive;
ATI Ultra video card with 1 meg ram.
My
second upgrades:
Cyrix
486 upgrade chip and Cyrix math co-processor;
730 meg & 1.2 gig Western Digital hard drives;
ATI Graphics Expression video card with 2 meg ram;
Microsoft natural keyboard;
Microsoft mouse.
I'm
calling my Gateway a dinosaur only because of the out dated
technology.
I've not a moments problem with this computer from the time I got
it.
I had to send back the second 110 meg hard drive because of cold
boot
problem but the replacement worked okay. The person I sold the
110 meg
drives to is still using them.

My new computer
finally arrived. It's a Micro Professional. Here's what it has:
200 mhz
Intel Pentum CPU;
32 meg EDO ram;
512 kb pipeline burst cache;
2.1 gb Western Digital hard drive;
1-3 1/2" and 1-5 1/4" Mitsumi floppy drives;
Goldstar 8X cd-rom drive;
SMS ESS sound card;
Sound Force 660 speakers;
Supra 33.6 internal fax-modem;
101 key Mitsumi keyboard;
Microsoft mouse;
Cirrus Logic video card with 2 meg ram;
15" Royal 1280X1024 monitor, 28dpi.
My first
upgrades:
Traded
Microsoft mouse for my old one;
Traded keyboard for my Microsoft Natural.
So far
this computer is working okay. The speed makes my old one
look like a boat anchor being dragged through mud.
I will post any problems I have with this new one.
